42 golfers face off for glory at PGK Nakuru tour

This event comes just two weeks after the fifth leg of the tour at Ruiru Sports Club, where David Wakhu of Golf Park claimed his first victory.

Samuel Njoroge, of Thika Sports Club, is leading the Order of Merit after winning the second leg at his home club in May.

He also finished in the top 10 in the other events. He has been in good form. In addition to his victory in the Equator Tour at Thika, Njoroge also secured his first win in Kenya’s other professional tour, the Sunshine Development Tour East Africa Swing, at the Nyali Golf and Country Club on July 9.

Njoroge leads the Equator Tour, the official pathway to the Magical Kenya Open, with 2,852 points. He said he aims to win three more events before the end of the season to emerge the overall winner. He finished second in the 2025 season.

“Winning three more events will make me the tour champion,” he said.

He is followed by Greg Snow of Muthaiga Golf Club on 2,320 points, while veteran golfer Dismas Indiza of Kakamega is third (2,290). Others in the top ten are Mohit Mediratta (2,050), David Wakhu (1,800), John Lejirmah (1,735), Michael Karanga (1,660), Mutahi Kibugu (1,507), Njoroge Kibugu (1,490) and Jastas Madoya (1,217).

“The course is in good condition, especially after the recent rainfall. The greens are holding up well, and I really want to win this time after a poor start last year cost me the victory,” said Njoroge after playing his first nine holes in a practice round at Nakuru Golf Club yesterday.

With Njoroge Kibugu, one of the leading pros, away, Samuel Njoroge is now the man to watch in Nakuru. Kibugu won the fourth leg at Nyali with a total of 15 under par over four rounds (269).

With only a few events remaining in the season, the competition in Nakuru carries added significance, as players look to strengthen their positions on the leaderboard and earn valuable Order of Merit points.
