Senior professional golfer Dismas Indiza put behind his disappointing performance at the Magical Kenya Open to claim victory at the NCBA Classic, organised by the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK), at the Great Rift Valley Golf Resort in Naivasha on Wednesday.

Despite the notoriously challenging course, with its unpredictable greens and demanding fairways, Indiza fired a superb five-under-par 66 in the second and final round to secure the win.

“I was in great form and ready for the Open at Muthaiga last weekend, but I just didn’t manage to click when I really wanted to play well,” said Indiza, who finished with a two-round total of one-under-par 141.

The event, which had a prize purse of Sh500,000, attracted 41 players, including leading amateurs John Lejirmah, Rafael Leming’ani, and Chris Andrea from Ruiru Sports Club.

Indiza had a shaky start in the opening round, carding a three-over-par 75 after picking up three bogeys and a double bogey at the seventh hole, with only two birdies to his name.

However, he bounced back impressively in the final round, making three birdies on both the front and back nines, with just a single bogey at the eighth hole.

“The course here is very unpredictable. With the carpet grass on the fairways, it was difficult to gauge distances, and some greens were faster while others were a bit slow. All the same, I am happy I managed to overcome all that,” said Indiza, who took home Sh90,000 for his victory.

Railway’s Samuel Njoroge finished second after carding a two-under-par 143, earning him Sh75,000. He started with a three-over-par 74 in the first round but recovered with a solid performance in the second, making three birdies and only one bogey.

PGK Chairman John Wangai secured third place with a total of three-over-par 145, just one stroke ahead of home player Simon Njogu.

Speaking after the event, Wangai confirmed that the next NCBA-sponsored tournament would take place in Nairobi in the coming days, with the exact venue to be announced soon.

“We are still discussing the next tournament and where it will take place,” Wangai said, while also thanking NCBA Bank for its continued support of local professional golfers.
