What you need to know:

  • In the women's tournament being held in Hammamat, Tunisia, Kenya Pipeline hammered Descrates of Cote d'Ivoire 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-11) to finish top of Group C with nine points from three matches.

Kenya Ports Authority on Wednesday stormed into the quarter-finals of the Africa Men's Clubs Championships with a 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-20, 25-22) win over CNS of Nigeria in Kelibia, Tunisia.

KPA will renew rivalry with Port Douala of Cameroon in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

Port Doula denied the Dockers the chance to advance to the semifinals last year in Tunisia and coach Sammy Mulinge is hoping that they finally get the better of them.

“This is a tough competition. Each team is out to make a difference. You lose the grip you are done. This is quarter-finals and a lot is at stake. It’s unfortunate that dependable left attacker David Thuita and right attacker Peter Kamara are yet to recover fully from Malaria and we don’t want to rush them. It will be unfair,” said Mulinge.

Chris Owalla and Jeffrey Ochieng have been filling the gap for Thuita and Kamara respectively.

In the women's tournament being held in Hammamat, Tunisia, Kenya Pipeline hammered Decaretes of Cote d'Ivoire 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-11) to finish top of Group C with nine points from three matches.

The Kenyan champions will now face Diofior of Senegal in the Round of 16 on Thursday.

In the other Group C match, MCA of Algeria held their nerve to beat NCS of Nigeria 3-2 (25-16 ,25 -21, 27-29, 24-26, 15-11) to fnish second on five points behind Kenya Pipeline.

Pipeline coach Paul Gitau said their tough group matches have hardened his side.

“So far so good. I’m extremely happy with the players performance, but the real work awaits us. We are determined to go all the way to the final and that’s why we are cautious about our opponents as the championship shapes up,” said Gitau.

Pipeline, who settled for the bronze medal last year in Tunisia, had earlier on the tournament beaten Mouloudia Club d'Alger 3-1(25-21,20-25,25-18,25-21) and Chief Naval Staff Spikers from Nigeria 3-1(25-12,21-25,25-13,27-25).

Defending champions KCB Women’s Volleyball Team, who had finished their Pool “B” matches on Tuesday with a perfect record will face National Customs Service of Nigeria in the knock out stage.

KCB had wrapped up the pool matches with a win against Asca. Salitigue of Senegal 3-0(25-11,25-13,25-15).

KCB had registered wins  against National Alcohol Liquor Factory of Ethiopia 3-0(25-20,25-12,25-9) and Nyong from Cameroon 3-0 (25-07,25-20,25-16) in the other matches.
