Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) has unveiled a new competition - the Kenya Cup tournament.

The new tournament is aimed at nurturing talent and elevating the game of volleyball in the country.

The competition, which is expected to serve off in February, will feature 17 men’s and women’s teams.

Matches will be held at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani Indoor Arena, and at Nyayo National Stadium.

Speaking during the launch at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka yesterday, KVF’s president, Charles Nyaberi, said: ‘The Kenya Cup volleyball tournament marks a new chapter for volleyball in our country. We are determined to create opportunities for players to showcase their skills and take Kenyan volleyball to new heights in regional as well as global stage.”

He said the tournament had attracted three sponsors, KCB, My Wood Company and Deliverance Church Kalimoni Juja.

International players

"We expect various international players to participate in this competition to showcase their talent, and to help make it attractive, KVF’s deputy president, Paul Bitok, said.

He added that the competition will also help sharpen players who will be selected to play for the senior national teams, Wafalme Stars and Malkia Strikers.

Men’s action will see former league champions, General Service Unit (GSU), Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Kenya Army, Equity Bank and Administration Police of Kenya (APK) lock horns in Pool “A” while Kenya Prisons will face Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Trailblazers, CHEMA and Kenya Air Force Police Unit (KAPU) in Pool “B”.

“This competition serves as a critical launch pad for the upcoming African Club Championship in April, also 2028 Olympic Games to be held in Los Angeles for both nationals teams,” said KCB women’s team chairman Collins Odiwuor.

“Over the course of this tournament, the 17 teams will showcase their tactical powers, engage in thrilling encounters, and fine-tune their squads for Africa's Club Champion.”
