What you need to know:

  • Kabras Sugar registers over half-century scores in their five matches this season.
  • Nakuru have only won one match so far, beating Nondies 32-30 away at Ngong Racecourse.

Champions Kabras Sugar are ready to unleash Kenya Cup’s most devastating try scorers this season, eighth man Jeanson Misoga and secondrow Patrick Lumumba, when they meet Nakuru at the Nakuru Athletic Club today.

Misoga and Lumumba are the league’s top try scorers with eight touchdowns apiece going into today’s round of matches.

The devastating forwards are on Kabras Sugar’s side that will renew its rivalry with former champions Nakuru.

It could end up as a high-scoring one-sided match considering that the five-time Kenya Cup champions, Kabras Sugar, have been on a roll, registering over half-century scores in their five matches this season. Their rampaging forward duo, you feel, will have a say.

Highest score this season

Kabras spanked Impala 123-0 at the Kakamega Showground for their highest score this season, while their least scoring victory was 58-0 against Daystar University Falcons.

There is more bad news for Nakuru. Kabras Sugar have players dominating all facets of the game. Kabras’s utility back, Eric Cantona, has six tries and in his league high 86 points scored.

Nakuru have been on the receiving end this season. They only won one match so far, beating Nondies 32-30 away at Ngong Racecourse.

It’s exactly nine years and three days since Nakuru last beat Kabras Sugar in a Kenya Cup outing.

That statistic was attained on January 21, 2017, at Kakamega Showground, a 19-15 score.

Interestingly, Kabras have never lost a Kenyan Cup match to Nakuru in Nakuru.

Try-scoring machines

The western Kenya side will also be looking to extend their 45-match unbeaten run stretching four seasons.

“Hopefully I will hit the double digits but it’s all about teamwork,” said the 28-year-old Misoga, who was the highest try scorer two seasons ago with 14.

Menengai Oilers try-scoring machines Daniel Kipchirchir and Beldad Ogeta, who landed six tries each, will be hoping to better their tally as they take the battle to Kenya Harlequin at RFUEA ground.

After stunning Nondies 23-18 in their last outing, giant slayers, Kenyatta University’s Blak Blak hope to get the scalp of former multiple Kenya Cup champions KCB at their varsity ground.

Strathmore Leos host Daystar Falcons in a varsity derby, while Kisumu will be looking for their first win of the season when they welcome Impala.
