Chest-thumping won’t heal Kenya from mayhem
A female protester jumps over a bonfire as she flees from anti-riot police officers at Free Area, along Nakuru-Nairobi highway on July 7, 2025.
National dialogue • The chest-thumping by Kenya Kwanza government officials will not heal the country from mayhem, says David Githae. “President William Ruto should swallow his pride and initiate a national dialogue, possibly at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi. The animosity between police and the public will not come to an end until a negotiating table is laid for reasoning.” His contact is [email protected].

Airtel, listen •On July 2, Prof Chris Macoloo went to the Airtel shop on Koinange Street in Nairobi to deposit money into his Airtel Money account to send and bail out someone who urgently needed help. “The lady at the counter casually told me she had run out of float. If an Airtel shop in Nairobi’s CBD cannot have float, what about an agent at Ogal Market in Kisumu County?” His contact is [email protected].

Equal recognition• To Kigwiri Njuru, the answer to the perennial question of what is in a name is that there is a lot. Says he: “There are thousands of secondary schools, yet one is called Kenya High School, as if it represents the whole nation. This is unfair and misleading. It elevates one institution above all others. All schools deserve equal recognition.” His contact is [email protected].

Safaricom bundles• Safaricom is giving its loyal customers a raw deal through the expiry of bundles, Stephen Njuru laments. “What is so difficult about reminding a subscriber about the expiry date or giving the leeway for one to recover expired bundles? I seriously think it’s high time they did so. And by the way, what happens when the bundles expire?” His contact is [email protected].

Noisy matatus• Can something be done about the irritating “exotic hooting systems” installed in some public service vehicles? asks Douglas Oramis. “Who sanctions it and where is Nema in all this? While many of the PSV drivers may enjoy conducting their noisy orchestra for the public, while waiting for passengers, this is actually noise pollution and it is a big public nuisance.” His contact is [email protected].
Have a tranquil day, won’t you!
