Exam cheats should be arrested and prosecuted

Exam cheating

Cheating in national exams give an undue advantage to some candidates.

Exam cheating • Cheating in examinations is the last thing anyone would want, says Alnashir D. Walji. However, he adds, many students pay a lot of money to illegally access the papers in advance. “This anomaly must be eliminated as exams are meant to test performance. Candidates burn the midnight oil to genuinely pass the tests. This calls for vigilance to catch the culprits!” His contact is [email protected].

Dire sign • Public universities are in financial dire straits and Githuku Mungai has figured out a most telling confirmation. Says he: “Look no further than the obituary pages of the Nation. Government ministries, departments and other bodies often place death announcements when a staff member dies, but the universities rarely do so these days.” His contact is [email protected].

Alarming • There is an alarming increase in Kala azar, a serious disease also known as black fever, says Fadhili Nafula. “Transmitted by sandflies, it’s a potentially fatal disease of the liver, spleen and bone marrow. It calls for early diagnosis and treatment. Fixing the crisis calls for key measures, including improved funding and community education.” His contact is [email protected].

Blatant bribery • Having two major police roadblocks less than two kilometres of each other at the Sio river bridge and near Mundika market on the Busia-Kisumu highway daily says a lot about the real intentions of the officers manning them, says Jim Webo. “They mostly flag down trucks, matatus and buses and wave them on after crumpled notes change hands. It’s so blatant and irritating.”

Conned • Kenyans driven by greed never seem to learn anything, says Evans Macharia Mwangi. These gullible people, he adds, are every now and then conned left, right and centre. “How do they expect their money to earn more interest than in the banks, money markets or even Saccos? As the popular saying goes, only the greedy ones are conned.” His contact is [email protected].

Have a realistic day, won’t you!
