Faith isn’t a free pass for noise pollution
Preaching should be done in church to avoid making too much noise for people in offices, shops, homes, schools and hospitals
Knec headache • The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) expects to register about 3.4 million learners for the various assessments during this month’s window, says Allan Sogoni. “Knec hopes to meet the target, but its portal functions only at midnight. It’s the head teachers who get blamed when the learners fail to get registered. The council should urgently update its system.” His contact is [email protected].

Promises • As next year’s polls approach, Allan Kinyua Murianki foresee promises to build roads featuring high on the politicians’ lists in Meru County. Says he: “The Kirachene–Gitimene road is vital for Buuri East Sub-County due to its strategic link to the agriculturally rich Naari region and has repeatedly been used to woo voters. They now need action, not words.” His contact is [email protected].

Punishing customers • Airtel internet subscriber Carey Yiembe is upset about the mobile service provider’s “woes”. Says he: “The Airtel 5G routers were not working this afternoon (on March 22), resulting in my accumulated Smarta bundles being depleted. A call to customer care only elicited a ‘sorry’ response. Surely, Airtel can do better and not punish its subscribers.” His contact is [email protected].

Holy noise • Freedom of worship is a constitutional right, but it is not a justification for excessive noise in residential areas, says Gabriel Kamau, who lives in Kitengela, Kajiado County. “The many churches often disrupt daily life, but my emails to the National Environment Management Authority have gone unanswered. And so have complaints to county authorities!” His contact is [email protected].

System failure • A regular user of the ‘Nairobi Pay’ service for its convenience, John Njuguna says the past week has been a nightmare. “I’ve been unable to generate an invoice for land rates to take advantage of Governor Johnson Sakaja’s waiver period. The governor has a catchy phrase, ‘It must work’, but this can’t be said of Nairobi Pay.” His contact is [email protected].
