Sleeping on the job • Where is the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) as volunteers fill deep craters with soil and rubble on the road outside the gleaming new Kemsa headquarters and warehouse in Embakasi, Nairobi? asks Kamau Kaniaru: “Is Kura waiting to repair the road only when President William Ruto announces that he will be coming to open the Kemsa offices?” His contact is [email protected].

Delays • There are shocking delays in the delivery of basic public services, as Boniface Mutua has found out. Says he: “I applied for my child’s birth certificate on July 6, at a Huduma Centre (Ref CBC-JYHGDWRQ). To date, there’s not a word from the Department of Civil Registration. I’m stuck. I thought the Huduma Centre was supposed to make services faster.” His contact is [email protected].

Interns’ strike • A crisis is looming in the health sector, with the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union having instructed intern doctors to strike over delayed pay, says Delphis Kiplagat. “Many are struggling to make ends meet, with some resorting to suicide. This confirms the systemic problems due to insufficient funding and staffing.” His contact is [email protected].

Inconvenience • Having booked an appointment for a heart patient a week ago, Nairobi resident Shainaz Khan had no doubt that everything would go according to plan. “But as we were just about to step out, I got a call from the heart clinic, saying that the doctor was unavailable. I hope they will realise the inconvenience caused to this desperate patient.” Shainaz’s contact is [email protected].

Social media ban • Let’s join Australia in banning the under 16s from social media, urges university don XN Iraki. “That will give children time to be children and learn to interact with fellow human beings. There’s nothing cool or heroic in getting hooked to screens and living a make-believe life. After all, only a few are online searching for the next innovation; it’s usually muchene!” His contact is [email protected].

Have replicable day, won’t you!
