Wrong choice • The choice of Oburu Oginga as the new ODM party leader has not gone down well with Carey Yiembe. Says he: “Why is Oburu, who always relied on his younger brother, the late Raila Odinga, for success in elections, now the best person to lead ODM? It’s not a family entity. Some people have sacrificed more for the party and should now lead it.” His contact is [email protected].

Delayed dividends • The long delays in paying dividends to shareholders are a great injustice to them, says Dan Gack. “Some companies declare dividends in March, the closure of books happens two months later, and the dividends are paid after one-and-a-half months. This would be excused in the old manual accounts processing days, but not in the current digital AI era.” His contact is [email protected].

Accidents causes • Police crackdowns often “occur after (fatal and serious injury) road accidents and then things just cool down”, says university don XN Iraki. “We should go beyond the human factors and analyse the road designs and the motor vehicle spare parts used.We should try to learn from the air-crash investigations, where no stone is left unturned.” His email address is [email protected].

SMS vital • The claim that the Short Message Service (SMS) is outdated is “not only misplaced, but also disconnected from everyday reality”, says Benjamin Kibias. “The SMS is a reliable communication tool. Banks, schools and Saccos depend on it for updates and notifications. While internet bundles may appear affordable to urban users, to many others, they are a luxury.” His contact is [email protected].

State failures • The government’s failures, “that are reaching levels never seen before”, P. Krish declares, are pushing him to vote for the opposition in next year’s elections. Says he: “From the recent deadly floods, we now have load-shedding and power blackouts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It’s a complete nightmare, and many of us are now tired of darkness.” His contact is [email protected].
