Politicians must stop misrepresenting Raila

Misrepresenting Raila • Since ODM founding leader Raila Odinga was laid to rest in Bondo, Siaya County, politicians are claiming they have been inspired to share his dreams for the country, says Muriithi King’au. “However, the true dreams Raila espoused throughout his political life are deeply embedded in the citizens’ minds. The dreams cannot be misrepresented.” His contact is [email protected].

ODM split • What’s emerging from ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa is that the party is split down the middle, says Jim Webo. “New party leader Oburu Oginga won’t have it easy fighting off the monied influence of President William Ruto’s UDA. It will be a big miracle if ODM remains intact until the 2027 General Election. Founding party leader Raila’s death was a massive blow!”

Failed pact • The Paris Agreement on Climate Change hasn’t worked some 10 years later, says Newton Tonui. “Keeping global warming below two degrees is a challenge, especially in the biggest economies—US and China. There is uncertainty over President Donald Trump, while Beijing isn’t doing much. The COP platform is focusing on least polluting nations.” His contact is [email protected].

Luthuli mess • Nairobi resident James Enyukor wishes Governor Johnson Sakaja could walk along Luthuli Avenue in the city centre towards River Road, and “see what a shambolic mess it has become”. Hawkers, he adds, have invaded it, with Kangemi route matatus parked with impunity, leaving little room for pedestrians. “The stifling heat is worsening it.” His contact is [email protected].

Power woes • The timing of President Ruto’s announcement at an international function of power shedding, or switching off electricity in some areas to avert grid collapse, raises serious concerns, says Ruth Gituma. “What impression are we creating for investors? And how can we aspire to achieve First-World status if we don’t prioritise alternative energy sources?” Her contact is [email protected].

Have a realistic day, won’t you!
