Protests shame • The thugs, who hijack peaceful demonstrations and unleash violence, causing deaths and injuries, while committing robberies and destroying property, are shaming our beloved country, says Lincoln E. Oyigo. “There is a need for urgent attention from the highest authority in the land to stop the mayhem. Why do we want to destroy our own country?” His contact is [email protected].

Illegal ban • Blocking peaceful protests, Jotham Ndung’u says, will be a violation of Article 37 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to assemble, demonstrate, picket, and present petitions to the authorities. “Instead, the government should deal with the goons who infiltrate peaceful GenZ protests, sparking chaos. Some walk alongside police.” His contact is [email protected].

Misplaced criticism • President William Ruto is under severe attack from critics, though he has done nothing wrong, says Eliab Otiato. “He subsidised fertilisers, bringing down the price from Sh7,000 to Sh2,500 per 50kg bag. Business tycoons are angry, having lost a fortune in supplies! Through his affordable housing programme, he has made landlords to lose their tenants.” His contact is [email protected].

Dilapidated library • Wajir Town deserves better, says Ali Hussein, appalled at the condition of the local public library. “I visited recently, and the library that was opened in 1999, is neglected. The room is tiny, with chairs and tables for children and power sockets don’t work. One must bend like a contortionist just to write. Fans don’t function in one of the hottest regions.” His contact is [email protected].

Moot talks • ODM leader Raila Odinga's “intergenerational conclave to discuss the way forward after the deadly June 25 protests may come a cropper”, remarks W. Kimariech. He poses: “Who will represent the amorphous leaderless GenZs and what numbers with the massive corruption that is likely to shape the trajectory of the talks? Let's talk at the ballot in 2027!” His contact is [email protected].

Have a realistic day, won’t you!
