A focus team appointed by the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Co-operatives and MSMEs Development, Wycliffe Oparanya, has recommended the extension of a moratorium barring the registration of new Saccos until they are placed under a new law.

The ministry in mid-2025 suspended the registration of new Saccos pending the recommendation of the Committee of Experts picked to review challenges facing the sector.
