Police in Lugari, Kakamega County, are investigating the mysterious disappearance of a school principal who went missing on Monday while on his way to collect examination papers.

Simon Isiaho Shange, the principal of Munyuki Secondary School, was last seen around 5:30 am after his vehicle collided with a truck along the Eldoret–Malaba Highway. He was reportedly heading to the distribution centre to collect KCSE examination papers.

An eyewitness identified only as Kibisu told police that he helped Mr Shange out of his mangled car through the passenger’s door. He said oil had spilt on the road, forcing him to cross to the other side to avoid oncoming vehicles, but when he turned back, he could no longer see Mr Shange.

The truck driver, who was involved in the collision, confirmed that there were only two vehicles on the road at the time.

He said that after checking on Mr Shange, who insisted he was fine, he returned to secure his truck as a crowd began to gather, but when he went back to the car moments later, Mr Shange had disappeared.

According to the driver, one witness claimed that Mr Shange had left the scene on a motorcycle.

Mr Shange’s Toyota, registration KBC 778S, was found wrecked at Munge stage, a section of the highway notorious for accidents.

A diary recovered from his house in Soweto Centre, Matunda, in Kitale detailed his plans for the day with the entry for Monday, November 3rd, reading:

“Prayer/devotion, Joshua 1:9 — Be courageous. Our students at Munyuki H commence KCSE. Fuel from Kipkaren River and Turbo for the whole week.”

His son, Barry Isiaho, said the diary was found in his father’s unlocked house.

“We got the key from the school bursar, who found the house unlocked on November 3rd, locked it and kept the key,” Mr Isiaho explained.

CCTV footage from a Rubis petrol station captured Mr Shange between 5:02 am and 5:05 am, fueling his car and paying before driving away.

He is seen wearing a blue jumper on top of what seems to be a white shirt, and a dark coloured pair of trousers.

A missing person report was filed at Lumakanda Police Station on November 4, 2025, but there have been no developments since.

The family remains distraught, saying they have searched hospitals and mortuaries in vain. Mr. Shange’s phone has remained switched off since his disappearance.
