At least three people died in a road accident involving vehicles in Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale’s convoy at Otonglo on Kisumu–Busia Road on Sunday.
One person died upon arrival at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, while two others succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at the facility.
According to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, the facility received 20 victims from the accident.
Five of the injured were admitted for further medical care, while 12 were treated and discharged.
The Cabinet Secretary was reportedly heading to Kisumu International Airport to catch a flight to Nairobi when a vehicle in his convoy collided with a tuk-tuk and a 14-seater matatu. Mr Duale was travelling from Siaya, where he had earlier attended a function, also attended by President William Ruto.
According to a police source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the CS escaped unhurt and was swiftly whisked away from the accident scene as emergency responders moved in to attend to the injured and assess the situation.
