Woman arrested for smuggling bhang in bread at Buruburu Station
The unsealed package raised suspicion among officers, and a search of it turned up five rolls of bhang.
A woman was arrested at Buruburu Police Station in Nairobi's Eastlands after officers manning the report office desk found bhang concealed inside a loaf of bread she had brought for her detained boyfriend.
The 26-year-old had gone to the station to see her boyfriend, who is currently held in police custody, and asked officers to pass him the loaf of bread. However, the unsealed package raised suspicion among officers, and a search of it turned up five rolls of bhang and a matchbox buried inside.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the discovery prompted a further search on the woman, which recovered an additional seven rolls of bhang hidden in the pocket of her jacket, bringing the total haul to 12 rolls.
She is now in custody, with DCI saying she is expected to be arraigned.
