5 people killed as bus and private car collide at Kikopey
Traffic police asses the wreckage of private car that was involved in an accident in Kikopey on Nakuru-Nairobi highway. Five people died.
Five people died on Monday morning after the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a bus at Kikopey along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
The accident, which occurred at 12am, involved a private car travelling from Nakuru towards Nairobi and a bus heading in the opposite direction.
Gilgil sub-County Police Commander Winston Mwakio said the driver of the car was trying to overtake other vehicles when it collided head on with the bus.
"Those we lost were occupants of the private vehicle, no one was injured in the bus" Mwakio said.
He said: "The bodies were moved to Gilgil sub-County mortuary awaiting identification while the wreckage was towed to Gilgil Police Station as police work to restore traffic flow."
