Motorists stranded for hours on Narok-Maai Mahiu highway

Hundreds of motorists were on Friday night stranded for hours in Ntulele, Narok East after a lorry knocked down a flock of sheep.
The driver of the lorry rammed into the herd on the busy Narok-Maai Mahiu highway, killing several of them.
Following the accident, members of the local community staged a protest and barricaded the highway with logs, rocks and bonfires.
The locals were demanding to be compensated for the dead animals.
“We demand Sh10,000 per sheep and we will not open this road until we are paid in full,” said the one of the protesters.
They argued that the region is a pastoralist area and the motorists should drive careful.
There was huge traffic snarl-up on both sides of the highway with vehicles from Nairobi stretching as far back as Nairagie Enkare junction.
Witnesses said the driver of the lorry was driving towards Narok from Nairobi when he knocked down the flock.
The driver went to Ntulele Police Station immediately after the accident.
