A 27-year-old man allegedly killed his sister and half-brother in Ol Kalou on September 4, 2025.
On Thursday (September 4) evening, Mundi village in the Ol Kalou constituency was plunged into mourning after a 27-year-old man allegedly killed his sister and half-brother.
Witnesses and the police believe that the suspect intended to kill his step-siblings, but ended up murdering his sister, Elizabeth Wanjiku Ngugi, in the process.
He is said to have called two half-brothers, who were playing outside, into his room, tied them to the bed and attacked them with the pair of scissors.
“He sent one of the minors, aged 13 years, to call his brothers who were playing outside the main house. He informed the minor that he wanted his brothers to help him repair his bed. The young boys obediently walked into the trap,” said Ms Agnes Gachuru, a relative.
She added that the 13-year-old boy sent by the suspect to call the others did not enter the room; he walked away to join Elizabeth for supper.
“The suspect’s mother died, leaving behind three children: a son now in university, and Elizabeth. Elizabeth died at the age of 29. The suspect is 27 years old,” said the relative.
According to the relative, Ramson Wanjohi went to call the other two siblings, who were tied to a bed in the suspect’s house.
After attacking the two minors, the suspect followed Ramson to the main house, where he was having supper with Elizabeth.
“He is alleged to have attacked Ramson with the same scissors, killing him instantly. He is then suspected of having turned against Elizabeth when she attempted to protect Ramson, killing her on the spot. The two minors who were the first to be attacked are undergoing treatment at JM Memorial Hospital.
Residents said that they responded to a distress call raised by Elizabeth.
“We found Elizabeth and Ransom bleeding. The two were confirmed dead on arrival at JM Memorial Hospital,” said a neighbour, Anthony Rubea.
It was during the confusion that one of the two minors in the suspect’s room raised an alarm, leading to their rescue.
Nyandarua Central Police boss Samuel Kamau, who confirmed the incident, said:
“We recovered the murder weapon, which is a pair of scissors. We are still trying to find out why he committed the murder,” said Mr Kamau.
He said the police have launched a manhunt for the suspect who escaped after the incident.
“The children’s father, who is an employee of the Nyandarua County government, and his wife arrived at home around 6pm before leaving together to pick something from a nearby shop. The suspect took advantage of their absence to commit the murder,” said Mr Kamau, adding that the bodies of the two are lying at Nyandarua Funeral Home, awaiting post-mortem.
