Former Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki has withdrawn from Nyandarua gubernatorial race.

Ms Kariuki was seeking to unseat Governor Francis Kimemia who wants to defend the seat he won in 2017 on a Jubilee party ticket.

"Leadership is about sacrifice, you cannot lead people without sacrificing, and dropping my bid does not in any way mean I have no power, I will take another action and will serve Nyandarua people at another level,” said Ms Kariuki on Thursday evening when she announced that she had dropped out of the race.

Ms Kariuki further said that her decision to opt out of the race was informed by wide consultations with high-profile leaders and residents of Nyandarua County.

She said:  "It’s been a lot of soul searching, consultation after another and I finally decided to sacrifice."
