I will silence my critics with development, Ruto says
President William Ruto is leveraging a massive infrastructure rollout in Taita Taveta County to counter "dishonesty" labels from his critics.
President William Ruto has vowed to implement development projects across the country to silence his critics who, he said, have long accused him of dishonesty.
The President urged his opponents to abandon divisive politics, tribalism, and hate, stressing that his administration is focused on uniting the country through development.
He accused his opponents of propagating political ethnicity, discrimination, and abuse instead of unity.
“Anyone propagating evil vices does not deserve any leadership position. We no longer want politics of exclusion and division. We want a government that unites all Kenyans. That is why I formed the broad-based government and included even those we opposed during the elections, because unity is strength,” he said.
The Head of State said he respects all leaders; however, he urged them to avoid divisive talk and offensive language, and instead preach unity while campaigning.
“Tell Kenyans your agenda and plans instead of name-calling, abuse, ethnicism, discrimination, and hatred. We want one Kenya because unity is strength. It was not by accident or default that we created the BBG so that we can bring all Kenyans together, because in unity we can succeed,” said President Ruto as he urged residents to support his 2027 bid for re-election.
The Head of State said his administration is laying a firm foundation for the nation’s economic transformation by rolling out strategic infrastructure projects across the country.
“We remain focused on delivering tangible projects that uplift the lives of our people. I inspected the ongoing construction of the 55km Mto Mwagodi-Dawida-Mbale-Wundanyi-Bura Junction Road in Mwatate Constituency,” said Dr Ruto.
Additionally, the Illasit-Rombo-Njukini-Taveta road, which connects Kajiado and Taita-Taveta counties, is progressing well, with 20km of the 60km stretch already completed.
He said the construction of the Cess-Lake Jipe Road is also underway, after the State advertised the tender for the Maungu-Kasigau road and secured funds for the Voi-Sagalla Road.
Speaking in Taita Taveta County during the launch of several projects, President Ruto announced that his government has allocated sufficient funds to construct the Mtomwagodi–Msau–Dawida–Mbale–Wundanyi–Bura road.
“This road, which you have waited for over 60 years, will be completed by February next year. Some claimed it was impossible and even said Ruto lies. I will answer them with action, not words,” he said.
The Head of State added that construction of the road linking Taita Taveta to Kajiado has already covered 20 kilometres, with the remaining 40 kilometres expected to be completed before the end of the year. He said the roads will boost transport, trade, and agriculture.
In addition, President Ruto announced that the government has set aside Sh5 billion to build a railway line from Voi to Holili to strengthen trade between Kenya and Tanzania. He said the line, which was operational decades ago before collapsing, is being revived and will be extended to Taveta by December this year, eventually connecting to Bujumbura, Burundi.
“We must connect our country and neighbouring countries by rail. That is why we are investing in this railway to ease transport and trade. Contractors and engineers are already on site,” he said.
The rehabilitation of the 127-kilometre Metre-Gauge Railway (MGR) line from Voi to Taveta, which ceased operations in the mid-2000s, is expected to boost cross-county trade and tourism once completed.
Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime praised the President for investing in infrastructure.
“Give credit where it is due. The President has built our roads to revive the transport sector. Our county will change significantly because of these projects,” he said.
