They should have been stars

In fact, she is one of the reasons why that song was so popular as soon as it was released in 2001. Everybody hoped that Ogopa DJs would nurture her career just like they did with Amani but that was not to be.

Maybe they had too much on their hands or maybe Brenda was not aggressive enough but she let her once promising career die. The last time she was seen was when she presented Toto 6-49 on TV.

 Talia Oyando

Talia ventured in to music at a tender age with a choral composition and arrangement piece “Simama Watu Wote” alongside former MP Raphael Tuju’s daughter.

She was a revelation as she went on to pursue a fulfilling music career with great songs especially her collaborations with the late E-Sir.

Even the song ‘Sweety Banana’ in which she collaborated with Nyambane was actually a very good piece considering it was sang in Ekegussi.

However, a career on radio came and she wasted no time in joining Easy FM. Nowadays she has a show on Q-FM but anyone waiting to hear music from her has been waiting for a long time.

Talia needs to find time and go to the studio because she is doing a great injustice to the music scene.

 Angela Angwenyi

Angela is one person who owes her fame to the music scene. Remember her winning the Kenya Nights Talent Search at K2? That was her big break and she went on to have a stint as vocalist in Nyambane’s band.

Her voice was amazing and she did an exceptional performance of a Luo song composed by Helen Akoth on that night. However, Just like Talia, radio came calling and she wasted no time in joining.

When it was announced that Angela would be one of the three judges in the MNET Idols reality TV show, eyebrows were raised.

Many argued that a musician would make a better judge than a radio presenter. She however disapproved us. She was a great judge who impressed with her knowledge of music.

She did not hesitate to tell off anyone who went off key and was even at hand to demonstrate a good voice herself. We are however still waiting for her to give us reason to rush to the music stores for her album. Do not forget that age is catching up.

 “Shinde” of Tattu

Angela Mwandanda aka Shinde was the reason Tatuu came to be. She was the voice of the group and amazed us with her ability to hold to music keys. Her great voice fell in between that of Rabo and Debbie.

Her vocal range is super flexible and can mingle comfortably in between the struck musical chords. In fact, this is the reason she is also a great karaoke host.

In the song ‘Teso’ it was so obvious that Shinde did everything to cover-up for her blundering partners.

The group may have failed but Shinde needs to get back to the studio and give us great tracks. She is tried and tested and has the capability to claim Amani and Wahu’s titles as the top female musicians in the country.

 Didge

Didge is another gifted vocalist. With his R&B style of music, he can capture the audience. His great romantic lyrics and mood can propel his emotional performance on stage. He only needs a microphone and a tall stool, and Didge will sing to kill.

Saa Zingine, Kitangoma were great songs and it is a shame that the dude has  just decided to stay and watch from a distance as others rock.

 Jomenes Boys and Band

If there was a Kenyan group that was destined for great things then it was Jomenes. The trio of Siwaye, Robin, and Omondi, had the urban rural blended beats one would dance to regardless to the language.

Nyatingli, is still being played on most radio stations but it is still hard to understand why the boys went silent.

 Kristine Apondi

If Kristine Apondi is waiting to join the next talent search then she is very misinformed. She dazzled us on TPF1 and made a mark at the MNET Idols where she should really have not been allowed to compete.

However, it is time she actually went to the studio and sang her own songs. If it is the money issue, we are aware that she got Sh300, 000 from being in the MNET Idols top 10 and that is enough to record an album.

It should be known that Apondi has been in the music scenes long before she took part in the talent searches.

She can perform any music genre giving her an edge over most artistes. It is time for some action otherwise age will catch-up as will the desire.
