Congolese songstress Mbilia Bel is recuperating at home in Kinshasa after being discharged from hospital last Sunday. The renowned musician was admitted in hospital following injuries she suffered in a road accident earlier this month.
The veteran singer and her manager, Jules Nsana, were heading to N’djili International Airport on September 9 to catch a flight to Brussels when the crash occurred.
Mbilia Bel had been scheduled to perform at a show that would have been held on Saturday (September 20) evening in the Belgian capital.
Speaking to the Nation on Thursday, Nsana said Mbilia Bel had been advised by her doctor to rest for at least two weeks before resuming her live shows.
“We are optimistic that she will be soon be fit enough to resume her practice sessions as we prepare to travel to Belgium in November,” Nsana said.
Congolese Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Yolande Elebe Ma Ndembo, was among those involved in arranging for Mbilia Bel treatment at the Renaissance University Hospital Centre (formerly Mama Yemo Hospital).
Following the road accident, many of Mbilia Bel’s fans took to social media to share their get-well messages.
In Belgium Mbilia Bel is still eagerly expected by her fans as she has not performed there for many years.
Johnny Junior show
Her countryman, Koffi Olomide (Grand Mopao Mokonzi), performed in Brussels on September 6, two weeks before Mbilia Bel's abortive show.
The postponed concert in Brussels has now been rescheduled for November 7.
Meanwhile, mercurial singer Johnny Junior backed by BV Band is expected to thrill Luo Rhumba fans in Migori town and its environs on Saturday. The show will be held at the New Kokoriko Lounge, next to Namba Junction.
The event organisers said they expect the show to attract revelers from Nyakweri, Awendo, Ranen, Rongo and Kehancha. Entrance fees for the show will be Sh500 (regular) and Sh1,000 (VIP).
Before the Migori show, Johnny Junior and his band will perform at Da Place Lounge and Restaurant in Kisumu City on Friday night.
Elsewhere, the Gembe Resort at Lwanda Centre in Mbita, Homa Bay County, will this weekend host a variety show with plenty of food, drinks, food and entertainment for revelers.
In Nairobi, the Ngong Race Course and Golf Park in Nairobi will Sunday host The Geoffrey Griffin Trophy-The After Party. There will be plenty of food and drinks and Nairobi’s best fashion at the event that starts at 12pm.
