Cabinet member snubs president over secret 2027 power deals
President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi on October 21, 2023.
A Cabinet member is becoming increasingly isolated within the government and politically. The man, who was appointed to a position in the broad-based government, has angered many by choosing to remain silent rather than support the president. It is believed that he has been secretly meeting another senior state official to negotiate power deals with other players ahead of the 2027 elections as part of an alternative political arrangement. Last week, he dragged MPs from his party to meet the state official. Those invited were not permitted to bring their phones to the meeting in an effort to keep the deliberations secret. However, after the meeting, the MPs told their party leader everything that had happened and dismissed the CS’s antics.
Sh10m mobilisation fee angers big man
Demands for Sh10 million by a leader in Parliament for the mobilisation of members have angered powerful forces within the corridors of power. The demands, which were raised “allegedly to pacify the ground”, made the powerful forces wonder why someone should be paid to do his work. So acrimonious was the issue that our bird whispered to us that the victim is no longer in good books with the big man. When the two met recently at a function, they couldn’t look each other in the eye, an indication that the damage has been done and the relationship is now irreparable.
Ex-CS is angry at the broad-based arrangement
Is a former Cabinet minister secretly wishing the broad-based government ill will? Well, during the sidelines of a high-profile funeral service, the man was overheard bitterly cursing the model, lamenting how it nearly wrecked his once-promising career before a powerful government operative stepped in to salvage him. According to our bird, the visibly agitated man swore he would stop at nothing to claw back what he dramatically termed as his “stolen glory” ahead of the 2027 elections. With clenched fists and a tone laced with defiance, he reportedly hinted at a grand political comeback that would rattle even the most established players, even if it means the administration losing the coming poll.
Honcho skips his own ‘crucial’ meeting
A senior leader in one of the arms of the government was a no-show in one of the crucial meetings, which was called to discuss important matters affecting the institution. Despite calling the meeting, which he was to chair, members were shocked to learn that the man was not in Nairobi and did not even bother to send an apology. Angered, senior officials who turned up for the meeting accused the man of despising them and organising too many things at the same time.
Gold deal turns sour for greedy politician
Did hunger for wealth lead a political figure into ruin? Well, whispers in the political corridors suggest that the man was recently drawn into a glittering gold deal in an Arabian country, even ignoring stern warnings from his own wife, who urged restraint. Convinced by smooth-talking brokers and persuasive middlemen, he allegedly staked a massive fund, dreaming of untold riches. But what seemed like a golden opportunity crumbled into a scam. The gold never appeared, the money vanished, and with it went a great measure of his credibility.
Fidgety chairman annoys witnesses
A chairman of a parliamentary committee has become the talk of town. Witnesses who appear before the committee are tired of the man’s behaviour. He is often constantly on his phone, even when serious issues are being discussed. Later, during the session, he asks the same question that had been explained earlier. The man doesn’t keep time and has a tendency to keep stakeholders waiting for hours, as he insists on chairing the meetings. Stakeholders are now plotting to give the committee a cold treatment until the chairman becomes civil and serious in his engagements with them.
