Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama has been elected the 52nd president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

Kanjama garnered 3,728 votes, beating Peter Wanyama (2,616), who was seeking the position for the second time, and Mwaura Kabata (2,086), the current LSK vice president.

SC Kanjama, who was admitted to the bar in 2003, is now set to succeed Faith Odhiambo for a term of two years.

The race was hotly contested, with candidates keen on securing the support of Nairobi, which has the highest concentration of advocates, as well as the younger bar, which has become increasingly influential in the direction of society.

The election was managed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), ensuring a transparent and fair process.

The LSK elections will also fill several other critical positions within the society. These include council members who represent various sectors of the legal community, including general members with at least 25 years of practice, as well as regional representatives for Nairobi, Upcountry, and the Coast.

Lawyerw will also pick members to serve on the Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal, a body that plays an essential role in maintaining the integrity of the profession.
