Compensation panel pays out Sh674 million to 505 protest victims

The government has disbursed Sh674.1 million to 505 victims of human rights violations linked to demonstrations and public protests, with the latest phase of compensation covering 157 verified claims worth Sh225.4 million.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Human Rights Violations said it had witnessed a sharp rise in claims since calling on victims to come forward two weeks ago, receiving more than 400 new claims.
