Makini School has introduced the Cambridge curriculum.
In the period where Covid-19 has disrupted education and all sectors of the economy, the institution is seeking to equip learners with skills needed for a changing economy that is immensely relying on automation from emerging technologies.
“Makini School has always kept with the times and endeavours to continue being a leader in education and innovation. We strive to meet the needs of our learners and live up to our education philosophy, which is to prepare our children for a happy and successful future in a forever changing world,” said the school’s Education Director Angelica Ouya.
Offering the British curriculum will ensure that Makini meets the needs of learners and parents, and especially those who require an international curriculum based on and adapted to Kenyans’ unique environment and requirements.
It will target those seeking to pursue an international curriculum for high school (in particular class 8 learners). The school seeks to offer an international curriculum that delivers high quality education but sustained at a mid-fee range.
However, the school will also continue to offer the Kenyan 8-4-4 curriculum - which has been the schools’ hallmark of academic excellence - and the Competency Based Curriculum.
“The Cambridge Curriculum will also kick off virtually in September and will be based on the same Makini ethos and values,” added headteacher Hezron Onyango, who is leading the implementation of the Cambridge curriculum.
The Cambridge framework will cover core subjects like English, Mathematics and Science, but the key subject will be ICT, which will enable learners to acquire computational thinking skills from a tender age.
Other subjects include History, Physical Education, Geography and Global Perspectives. Swahili and French will be taught as additional languages.
