It is all systems go for this year’s edition of the Man Cave scheduled for this Saturday. The men-only event, whose theme is “Nurturing Resilience, Shaping the future”, will take place at Herencia Gardens off Thika Road.
Man Cave is an annual event organised by Nation Media Group (NMG) to empower, celebrate, and encourage men from different backgrounds. It brings together men from all over Kenya to share their challenges, triumphs, and personal stories about what it means to be a man. It further provides an opportunity for men to interact, influence, connect, learn, and receive peer mentorship.
Leonard Ngugi, the Brand Experiential & Activations Manager at NMG, said they expect 1,000 men this year. They will dwell on building and managing wealth, mental health, and resilience. He added that the event offers a safe space for men to freely talk and ventilate on issues affecting them.
“The Man Cave has seen significant growth since its inauguration in 2022. We have held three successful events, with each event improving in quality and audience size. This year, we anticipate even higher participation,” Mr Ngugi said.
Besides learning and having a safe space to speak their mind and talk about their issues, participants will also get an opportunity to network, he added.
Mr Ngugi noted that past Man Caves have been instrumental in sensitising men to issues like mental health, relationships and finances. Keynote speakers will include David Thuku, an executive coach and leadership practitioner with over 30 years of corporate leadership experience; Dr Gamaliel Hassan, the CEO of Stima Sacco; Pastor Kelvin Odek; Fareed Khimani, a renowned media personality; and George Ikua, an entrepreneur.
Dorcas Muga-Odumbe, the Gender & Health Editor at NMG, lauded the Man Cave, terming it a good initiative aimed at promoting men’s issues. She said the event comes to cement NMG’s strong standing as a corporate that is pro-gender equality.
“Man Cave is a good initiative as it offers an opportunity for men to freely talk about their issues and more so those that affect them like mental health. Such an event is timely, especially in this era where everybody is saying the boy-child has been left behind in terms of empowerment.”
The inaugural Man Cave in 2022 was attended by 500 men. It focused on relationships, family, and sustainable success. The second edition, which took place at the Lake House, Tigoni, was attended by 650 men and focused on identity and legacy. The third edition saw 800 men grace the event, which focused on fatherhood and finances. The fourth edition, attended by 780 men, focused on balancing personal growth and family responsibilities as a modern man.
The Man Cave—which targets men aged 24–65 who are tech-savvy, family-oriented, financially stable, health-conscious—aims to make an impact within participants’ circles of influence, hoping they have something to contribute to fellow men for the betterment of society.
