A Cabinet Secretary in a critical portfolio, appointed after last year’s protests, is the talk of his staff. The man who unsuccessfully tried his luck at an elective post in the 2022 General Election has suddenly become an absentee leader, leaving his Principal Secretary – a newcomer – to do the lion’s share of the work. Unfortunately, the PS, who is also new to the job, is still getting used to his duties, leaving the key ministry badly exposed. Staff members are questioning why two politicians with no proven track record of leadership have been appointed to the critical ministry.
Pillow talk stuns female executives
A female lawmaker has stunned women business executives and other leaders after appearing to trivialise a national event with allusions to bedroom talk. In what was supposed to be a presentation on how female executives can improve their leadership skills, the opposition but pro-government politician appeared to suggest to women that there is more than one way to get ahead in their careers. As well as telling them about the power of their anatomy, she shared anecdotes, including the inner garment she wore, that left many in the audience red-faced.
Two per cent for favourable ruling
A judicial officer in one of the country’s busiest court stations has stunned lawyers and litigants who have cases before the officer. The officer, who was recently in the news for a separate matter, reportedly demands a slice of the property of at least two per cent in succession matters the court handles, to rule in a particular way. Failure to comply with this rule attracts the wrath of the officer. Most of the victims, who cannot speak for fear of reprisals, are heirs of landed tycoons who passed on without a Will. Lawyers now plan to expose the judicial officer.
Big man wants out of Ruto’s tours
A top politician who had a rough time during President William Ruto’s five-day tour in Mt Kenya has pleaded to be left out in the next of visits. Talk of Town has reliably learnt that the vocal leader kindly requested the President to excuse him in his next visit in order to avoid more embarrassment and confrontations with the residents. The lawmaker believes there is a deliberate attempt by a section of leaders from his backyard to embarrass him in the presence of the Head of State as a way of portraying him as being a political novice.
Lawmaker unhappy with Mountain
Still on the tour, an opposition lawmaker from Western is unhappy with the reception President Ruto received in Mt Kenya. The MP was heard complaining around Bunge Towers how the wild reception received by Dr Ruto in Central risks downgrading their importance around power. The outspoken lawmaker said he wanted the region to shout “Ruto must go” during the rallies so that they can continue to play an important role in the government. He, however, said that despite the reception the President received, they would remain in the government until the end.
Paedophile fears exposure, arrest
A senior officer in one of the counties in Nyanza who unsuccessfully sought a parliamentary seat in 2022 is a marked man by security authorities over claims of paedophilia. The man, whose elder brother also previously attempted his luck in county politics, is worried the law might catch up with him and has started blackmailing guest house owners where he “quenches his thirst” with young ones not to provide evidence regarding the escapades. Affected parents want the governor, known for his long standing human rights activism, to take immediate action before things get worse.
