Martha Karua: Cyrus Jirongo was concerned about his life before he died
The wreckage of the Mercedes Benz that former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo was driving before a road crash that claimed his life on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway on December 13, 2025.
The People's Liberation Party (PLP) leader, Martha Karua, eulogised the late Cyrus Jirongo, describing him as a man who welcomed everyone, regardless of their political views.
In her speech at the requiem mass on Saturday, December 27, at Citam Valley Road, Ms Karua revealed that Jirongo had raised questions about his safety.
Without revealing any further details, the PLP leader said that the late Lugari MP had hinted at increasing his security detail.
"I want to say something that maybe hasn't been mentioned: Cyrus had concerns about his safety. He was actually making arrangements to improve his security. This accident occurred before those plans could be put in place. Those questions will linger," said Ms Karua.
She also revealed that plans were in place for a collaboration ahead of the 2027 elections.
"We collaborated with Cyrus in many political campaigns, including the run-up to the 2022 elections. We were planning to continue collaborating moving forward,' she said, adding that the plans in the pipeline would not stop even after his death.

Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, who also spoke at the event, said that Jirongo's death did not make any sense. Hence the need for a thorough investigation.
George Khaniri, chairperson of the funeral planning committee for the late MP and businessman, raised questions surrounding Jirongo's death.
"I have known Cyrus for many years. I can vouch for sure that in the state that he was, he did not drive himself to Naivasha. There are so many inconsistencies. We are told that he was in a head-on collision with a Busia-bound bus...I have not seen a single passenger come and say, 'Yes, I was in the bus that collided with Cyrus'," Mr Khaniri said.
Accordingly, Mr Khaniri questioned the state of the Mercedes-Benz vehicle that the late Jirongo was driving, saying that none of the 12 airbags were deployed after the accident impact.
He also stated that Jirongo's political moves had threatened a section of people who were not happy with him.
