Murkomen supports terrorism charges
The government will arrest all suspected planners, financiers and participants in the chaos that rocked parts of the country in the recent demonstrations and led to destruction of property and loss of lives.
Mr Murkomen, who spoke in Bomet, revealed, that those who invaded and burnt police stations, judiciary buildings, business premises and torched motor vehicles, while attacking innocent Kenyans and police officers on duty, will all be rounded up and charged with terrorism.
The CS said the arrests will continue despite the uproar it has caused in some quarters.
He said the investigations and crackdown will continue and the arraignments in court will continue until order prevails in the country.
“Those challenging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) and the Judiciary ,saying the terrorism charges preferred against those who have been arrested are inappropriate charges, should explain to us the alternative charges for the suspects,” Mr Murkomen said.
Mr Murkomen was speaking on Monday at the Bomet IAAF stadium,where he was hosted by the Bomet Administration Police Football club.
He is the patron of the club.
He was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli, Bomet Deputy Governor Shadrack Rotich and Senator Hillary Sigei.

“If you invade a police station, burn it, steal guns, burn houses and business premises, burn courts and judiciary buildings, what else is that crime called if not an act of terrorism?” Mr Murkomen said.
“If you establish criminal gangs whose business is to invade and destroy business enterprises…if you finance people to carry machetes and petrol bombs so as to invade people’s houses, business premises and security installations, why can’t we arrest and charge you with terrorism,” he added.
Mr Murkomen said investigations into the chaos that were witnessed in the country on June 25 and July 7, were ongoing and suspects who participated in the acts at all levels will be dealt with accordingly and firmly by the security agencies.

Apart from terrorism , some of the suspects, he said, will also be charged in court with theft, robberies, arson and other criminal acts the investigators will unravel.
“Unfortunately, people do not imagine that terrorists live in the up market centers and estates in this country, that they do not wear suits…that they are only to be found in Boni forest, Mandera, Marsabit and Turkana,” Mr Murkomen stated.
He said the “Those organizing citizens to participate in criminal activities in the name of picketing will be arrested and charged with terrorism. They will be charged in court against the Terrorism Act.”
The CS said the government will be firm on the matter and however long it takes to get those involved, there was no going back on it and that order must prevail in the country.
He said the brazen attacks against police officers on duty, invasion and theft of guns and ammunition or torching of the police stations, must come to an end in the country.

The CS is on record saying over 42 people have been killed in the protests that have rocked the country in what he has described as “acts of terrorism disguised as picketing”
Activist Boniface Mwangi is the latest to be arrested over terrorism but the charges dropped leading to his arraignment in court over illegal possession of ammunition.
In unprecedented moves, Kenya has witnessed attacks against police officers and police stations with more than 50 officers said to have been injured.
Several prominent people and political activists are said to be in the radar of Anti-Terrorism Police Unit and the Serious Crimes Investigations Unit of the police department.
