Saba Saba: Any gathering tomorrow is illegal, say police

Police have declared Tuesday July 7, the anniversary of Saba Saba protests, a normal working day but have added a caveat: all gatherings are illegal and vehicles coming into the Nairobi city centre will be screened.
Speaking to journalists on Monday evening, Nairobi Police Commander Issa Mohamud said they have not received notice from anyone regarding tomorrow's planned Saba Saba protests.
Thus, he said, any gathering tomorrow will be treated as illegal.
"Tomorrow is a normal working day," he said.
He said police had only learnt of the planned demonstrations through social media.
“It is a requirement in the Public Order Act that we should be notified, and we have not received notification from any quarters. Even neighbouring counties have not received the same...claims of a protest tomorrow remain allegations,” he added.
He said authorities have also received reports that there may be plans to cause violence.
"We have intelligence...there is a group whose intention is to incite violence," he said.
