Once in the dock, he pleaded not guilty to charges of falsifying information.

The court then freed him on a personal bond of Sh100,000 with one contact person. The next hearing date is set for April 16, 2026 to confirm compliance with directions issued by the court.

His court appearance comes two weeks after an initial attempt by authorities to charge him fell through following his admission at the Karen Hospital. At the time, his legal team said he had been roughed up during his arrest and had to seek treatment.

It also comes a week after he alleged that his driver, Steve Mwanga, was "waylaid" and arrested by police while running an errand.

The police have maintained that the former CS was at his Karen residence the entire time his family alleged he was missing. When he resurfaced, authorities swiftly moved to arrest him.

He resurfaced on Monday March 23 after being reported missing the Saturday before. According to his family, Tuju and his driver had disappeared while en route to a radio interview and his vehicle was later found abandoned on Miotoni Lane in Karen.
