Woman suspected of hosting teens booze party detained for seven days

A woman who was arrested at the weekend on suspicion of hosting 44 teenagers to sex and booze party in her house in Nairobi’s Mountain View Estate will be held in police custody for seven days.
Following an application by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to have Millicent Kithinji detained, Milimani Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot directed the suspect be held until Monday next week as police gather evidence of child trafficking against her.
The DCI obtained the detention orders for the suspect to assist in investigations into a suspected web involved in child trafficking and causing children to be exposed to sexual abuse and exploitation, including prostitution and pornography.
Ms Kithinji will be held at Kabete Police Station alongside her accomplices David Kibe Wambui, George Kamau Muthoni and Michael Morega who are suspected of committing or and abetting the crimes.
The four are suspected to be behind the sleep-over party where the minors were found partying.
Corporal Julius Oguma of Dagoretti DCI offices said during the arrest police recovered condoms and empty bottles of assorted alcoholic drinks and bhang from Ms Kithinji’s house.
The officer further told the court that the minors were exposed to pornography in Ms Kithinji's presence.
“The teenagers were being exposed to pornography and drugs in presence of Kithinji and Morenga. Mr. Wambu and George Muthoni, being businessmen within the Mountain View area, were involved in the supply of drugs and alcohol to the teenagers,” Corporal Julius Oguma told the court.
"It is suspected that there are people who benefit from pornographic videos shot during such events hence there is need for proper investigations to identify the culprits," he said.
Police believe Ms Kithinji was aware of the events happening in her house having been informed by her son.
Pornography and drugs
Police stormed the house party after being alerted by Ms Kithinji’s neighbours. During the raid police found and seized bhang and various brands of whisky and vodka.
The teens found in Ms Kithinji’s house were 26 boys and 18 girls aged between 14 and 17 years and who are primary and secondary school learners.
It is suspected that the organisers of such events lure teenagers through social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
The detectives are pursuing a syndicate that has been undertaking the activities and wants to obtain the suspects’ call data records and sift through their communication gadgets to nab their accomplices.
The 44 minors from Kiambu, Nairobi and Machakos counties have been since handed over to the Department of Children Services.
Mr Cheruiyot granted police the custodial orders they sought.
