What you need to know:

  • In Kisumu County, there has been a gap in chairmanship after Dickson Oruko passed on two years ago. Nyamlori FC chairman Ken Ouma and Kisumu All Stars CEO Benjamin Oyugi, alias Basole will be seeking the top seat.
  • "Please be assured that we will remain unwaveringly committed to overseeing an election that is free, fair, transparent, credible and verifiable in all respects,"FKF Electoral Board chairman Hesbon Owilla pledged earlier this week.

The process to pick new leadership in Kenyan football following an eight-year reign by outgoing president Nick Mwendwa begins Thursday with FKF county elections.

The men and women who will be voted in Thursday will form part of the 94 delegates that will elect the national executive team lead by a president on December 7 to manage Kenyan football for the next four years.

The elections will take place in 44 counties among the 48 in the FKF constitution.

No elections will be held in Baringo, Samburu and Makueni counties as all candidates are unopposed, while the Sports Dispute Tribunal has stopped the exercise in Homa Bay County following a dispute by the candidates over the list of clubs and delegates.

Those who will win the chairmanship will elect the next FKF president and National Executive Committee members in the national polls set to be held in three weeks time in Nairobi.

Some of the counties are likely to see tight races pitting seasoned incumbents against newcomers.

In Nakuru, the incumbent chairman Francis Oliele, a well-known football administrator, faces the challenge of newcomers Kepha Onditi and Eliakim Mbalilwa.

In Trans Nzoia, incumbent Francis Mbayakula has been challenged by Isaac Munene, the chairman of FKF County Division Two side Bwake FC.

New entrants

In Taita Taveta, new entrants Zablon Mwanyumba, Basil Mwakulumba and Patrick Were will face Duncan Maganga, who is defending his seat.

In the neighbouring Mombasa County, incumbent Lillian Nandudu will be seeking to defend her seat against Congo Boys chairman Al Amin Abdallah and Mombasa County Football Association secretary Salim Ali Said, whose name was added to the ballot last week following a ruling by the SDT.

In Kisumu County, there has been a gap in chairmanship after Dickson Oruko passed on two years ago. Nyamlori FC chairman Ken Ouma and Kisumu All Stars CEO Benjamin Oyugi, alias Basole will be seeking the top seat.

"Please be assured that we will remain unwaveringly committed to overseeing an election that is free, fair, transparent, credible and verifiable in all respects,"FKF Electoral Board chairman Hesbon Owilla pledged earlier this week.

The county polls were originally scheduled to be held last Saturday, but were stopped by the High Court in Kitui following a case filed by lawyer Gordon Ogado challenging the legality of the process.
