Despite leaving the 2026 Fifa World Cup without any points, former Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne who is here with Haiti wants to see through his contract.
Haiti are returning to the World Cup after 52 years, but have lost all their Group C matches to five-time champions Brazil, 2022 semi-finalists Morocco, and Scotland.
“We were very close to making history at this World Cup, and we can leave with our heads held high,” said Migne on Wednesday evening, shortly after Haiti lost 4-2 to Morocco in their final group match.

When asked if he would continue in his role as Haiti’s coach after their early elimination, the Frenchman said: “I still have a contract with Haiti. You should ask the Haitian FA. I am a professional. It will be in everybody’s interest to take a step back and analyse our journey thus far.”
Haiti lost 1-0 to Scotland in their opening match on June 13, before losing 3-0 to Brazil six days later.
The former Kenya coach blamed a refereeing decision for their loss to Scotland, saying they should have earned at least a point in that match.
“I am disappointed with the results. I wish we could have scored more and won. The boys never gave up. They showed Haitian spirit. They never give up. They represented their country well,” said Migne, 53, who was appointed Haiti coach in March 2024.

Despite never having set foot in Haiti, which is experiencing civil unrest, he successfully guided the team through the Concacaf qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, finishing top of Group C. Haiti made their first appearance at the World Cup in 1974 in Germany.
Migne expressed regret at never having set foot in Haiti, suggesting that being there in person might have helped.
“I have never been to Haiti. Everyone is aware of the security situation there. It would be helpful to be in the country to better grasp its culture. But I talk to all the players and coaching staff.”
Between May 2018 and August 2019, Migne coached Harambee Stars, famously leading them to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and ending the football-mad country’s 15-year wait.

He also secured Kenya’s second ever victory in the tournament by winning a match against Tanzania 3–2.
Migne left Kenya under unclear circumstances, with the Football Kenya Federation offering only that they had parted with the Frenchman “by mutual consent.” His contract was due to run until 2021.
Migne has previously coached Equatorial Guinea, Congo, DR Congo and Togo. He once talked about taking Kenya to the World Cup, but ultimately achieved this feat with Haiti. He enjoyed the challenge.
“We had to rise to quite a challenge. There were high expectations. The draw was not easy for us, with us being put in the same group as Morocco and Brazil. But this is the environment I live in,” he said.
