Fifa boss congratulates Gor Mahia for winning Kenyan Premier League

  • Gor Mahia were confirmed the league winners last Sunday after AFC Leopards lost 2-1 to APS Bomet in Kericho.
  • K’Ogalo will be crowned champions at on Sunday Nyayo National Stadium, after their match against Nairobi United.

The world football governing body, Fifa has congratulated Gor Mahia for winning the 2025/26 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) title.

In a letter addressed to FKF president Hussein Mohammed, Fifa president Gianni Infantino said Gor Mahia’s triumph is a result of the club’s continuous hard work. 

“By means of this letter, I am pleased to congratulate the recently crowned champions of Kenya, Gor Mahia FC!,” Infantino stated.

“Their constant efforts and results throughout the season have paid off, resulting in this important title. Congratulations to each and every member of the team and of the club for this great achievement,” he added.

Gor Mahia were confirmed winners of this season’s FKF-PL campaign last Sunday after their closest rivals AFC Leopards lost 2-1 to APS Bomet at Kericho Green Stadium.

On Sunday, Gor Mahia will go into the final round of matches this season top of the 18-team league with an unassailable 69 points.

K’Ogalo will be crowned the FKF-PL champions at Nyayo National Stadium, after their last match of the season against Nairobi United.

With this season’s triumph, Gor extended their record as the most successful club in the competition’s history with an unprecedented 22nd title. They will pocket Sh15 million for the achievement.

On May 21, Fifa also paid tribute to Harambee Stars and Gor’s legend Allan Thigo following his demise on May 9. 

In a letter that was also addressed to Mohammed, Fifa said Thigo’s rich football legacy won’t be forgotten.

"…On behalf of the international football community, I wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the Football Kenya Federation, and to Allan Thigo’s family, friends and loved ones. Our thoughts are with all of you. We hope that these memories and our words of support may help bring some peace and solace at this difficult time," said Infantino.
