What you need to know:

  • Elsewhere, AFC Leopards drew 1-1 with Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium, in a match marred by tension. Leopards’ youngster Kelly Madada opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Sofapaka’s Edwin Omondi equalised in the 84th minute.
  • The match ended in chaos as police intervened with teargas to disperse angry Leopards fans, who accused the referee of bias. Ingwe coach Fred Ambani lamented officiating but remained optimistic.

Shabana FC’s resurgence continued on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over league leaders KCB in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League clash at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County.

In Nairobi, 21-year-old Tusker striker Ryan Ogam delivered yet another stellar performance, netting both goals in their 2-0 triumph over Bidco United at Dandora Stadium. Ogam, the current top scorer, has now bagged 12 goals this season and is closing in on last season's Golden Boot record of 19 goals set by Benson Omala, now with Al Safa FC.

In Kisii, goals from attacker Brian Michira—his seventh of the season—and debutante Austin Odongo, who scored his first top-flight goal, sealed the win for Shabana. Coach Peter Okidi praised his team for the continued improvement after a rocky start to the season.

“This victory is for all of us who have been involved in preparing the team for matches. We continued to build up from where we left, and we are happy we won today,” said Okidi.

Okidi also confirmed that their lead striker Mathew Momanyi Tegisi played his final match for the Kisii-based side and is set to join Tanzanian club Mtibwa Sugar.

KCB coach Patrick Odhiambo, visibly frustrated, blamed the match officials for his team’s defeat, claiming poor officiating played a part.

“I have nothing much to say but the center referee has been pathetic. If these are the kind of match officials that we will be having, then we have a long way to go. The federation should do something about the officiating that is being done in top-flight football,” said an irate Odhiambo.

The victory propelled Shabana to fifth position with 20 points from 14 matches. It followed their impressive 1-1 draw against defending champions Gor Mahia last week.

Meanwhile, Tusker’s win puts them level on 24 points with KCB at the top of the table, though KCB remain ahead on goal difference. Ogam’s brace underlined his lethal form as the brewers continue their title chase.

Elsewhere, AFC Leopards drew 1-1 with Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium, in a match marred by tension. Leopards’ youngster Kelly Madada opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Sofapaka’s Edwin Omondi equalised in the 84th minute.

The match ended in chaos as police intervened with teargas to disperse angry Leopards fans, who accused the referee of bias. Ingwe coach Fred Ambani lamented officiating but remained optimistic.

“The referee made several unfair decisions against us, but the team will be much better next time after correcting some of the mistakes we made today,” said Ambani.
