Leopards eye the summit in Kenyan Premier League

Twelve-time Kenyan champions AFC Leopards have a chance to move to the summit of the SportPesa League on Tuesday if they beat struggling Bidco United 3-0.
The match, which will be the final one of the round of 15 fixtures to be played before Christmas break, will take place at Moi International Sports Centre (MISC), Kasarani in Nairobi from 3 pm.
Ahead of the match, Leopards are fifth with 21 points from 12 matches and a goal difference of +4. Gor tops the standings with 24 points from 13 matches with a goal difference of +7.
Leopards have lost just once this season - a 2-0 defeat to hosts Mara Sugar last month. They have won five matches this season and drawn six.
Leopards last won the top-flight league title in 1998, and reclaiming it remains their main objective this season.
They defeated their bitter rivals Gor Mahia1-0 in the “Mashemeji” derby held on December 7 at Nyayo National Stadium, making a big statement of their title ambitions.
Sitting 15th with 14 points, Bidco United are winless in their last nine league matches.
On Monday, defending champions Kenya Police squandered the chance to return to the top of the standings after throwing away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with hosts Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.
Police had taken the healthy lead through goals by Marvin Nabwire and Charles Ouma in the 10th and 24th minutes, respectively.
Homeboyz levelled the score with goals from Potiphar Odhiambo and Oscar Juma in the 55th and 58th minute,s respectively.
Homeboyz are sixth with 21 points from 14 matches.
At Ulinzi Sports Complex, striker Paul Okoth scored a hat-trick to guide the soldiers to a 3-0 win over Posta Rangers.
He netted in the sixth, 69th and 88th minutes, with the last goal coming from the spot.
That victory brought Ulinzi’s four-match winless streak to an end.
The soldiers are 14th with 16 points from 15 matches, while Rangers are eighth with 21 points from 15 matches.
Rangers are now winless in their last three matches. At Awendo Green Stadium in Migori, Murang’a Seal defeated Mara Sugar 3-1. Muranga’s Joe Waithira scored a brace while Lucas Maina added the third for the visitors. Jimmy Owili scored Mara’s consolation goal at the stroke of half-time. While Mu-rang’a sit ninth with 18 points from 14 matches, Seal are 10th with a similar number of points but with an inferior goal difference.
Struggling Sofapaka and Kariobangi Sharks battled to a barren draw at MISC Kasarani Annex. Sitting second last with 13 points, Sofapaka have not won in their last seven matches. The Sharks are bottom with 12 points.
