Ulinzi Starlets shoot down Kenya Police in FKF Women Premier League

Midfielder Siliya Rasoha’s 85th-minute goal secured victory for Ulinzi Starlets against champions Kenya Police Bullets in a Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League (FKF-WPL) match on on Sunday at Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi.

The result halted the unbeaten run that Kenya Police have enjoyed since the start of the season. The team is now  third in the league on 15 points from five matches.

The team has played one match less. Following the victory, Ulinzi Starlets have risen to fourth in the standings with 14 points from eight matches, having won four, drawn two, and lost two.

The law enforcers returned to action on Sunday after a two-week break during which Annedy Kundu, Leah Andiema, Medina Abubakar, and Emily Morang’a played for Harambee Starlets in international friendlies against Algeria. In fifth and sixth rounds of matches, 13 league players were away from the league on national team duties.

Four-time champions Vihiga Queens had three players in Harambee Starlets camp. They are  midfielders Providence Mikalo, and strikers Martha Amunyolete and Airin Madalina.

Zetech Sparks (defender Sherly Muyera), Trinity Starlets (midfielder Elizabeth Muteshi), Kayole Starlets (striker Euphrasier Shilwatso), Soccer Assassins (striker Valarie Nekesa), and Bungoma Queens (striker Catherine Khaemba) each lost a player to the national team, but their matches proceeded as scheduled.

Battling relegation

In other matches played on Sunday, Kibera Soccer Women defeated Kisumu All Starlets 2-0 at Marist University Grounds in Karen, with Annie Matinde and Ann Arusi scoring in the 29th and 87th minutes of the match respectively.

Kibera, who are battling relegation, climbed to eighth place on the standings with eight points, same ninth-placed Soccer Assassins who have an inferior goal difference. Kisumu

All Starlets remain bottom with one point after eight matches. At Mumboha Stadium in Luanda, Vihiga County, Trinity Starlets took the top spot with 17 points after a 3-1 victory over Soccer Assassins.

Mariam Nelima scored twice - in the 10th and 43rd minutes - and Elzabeth Muteshi added another in the 22nd minute for Trinity. Assassins scored the consolation in the 50th minute of the match through a penalty.

Elsewhere, Ashley Shilwatso and Linda Kihara scored in the 30th and 75th minutes to secure a 2-0 win for Kayole Starlets against Vihiga at Stima Club Grounds in Nairobi.

Kisped Queens suffered their sixth loss of the season, falling 1-0 to newly promoted Gideon Starlets at Moi Stadium in Kisumu, with Marceline Wafula scoring the lone goal. ENDS
