The Kenyan flag was in full display at the Modus Live Lounge in Portsmouth, England, yesterday as the Kenyan darts pair of David Munyua and Peter Wachiuri featured in the opening day of Modus International Pairs 3.
Munyua and Wachiuri, wearing all-black kits and with the latter standing out in a black-red-green Maasai belt with white beads reading “The King”, finished the day with two wins and three losses from their five Group ‘A’ contests against pairs from Belgium (Andy Baetens and Brian Raman), Northern Ireland (Neil Duff and Richard McKee), Ireland (defending champions Conor Heneghan and John O’Shea), Scotland (Jim McWEwan and Scott Campbell), and Wales (Kurt Parry and Richie Burnett).

The fixtures in the competition are played as best-of-seven contests. The Kenyan pair, who have their equipment sponsored by Winmau, got off to a flying start with a dramatic 4-3 win over Belgium in their first contest.
Munyua and Wachiuri survived a late charge from the Belgians, who forced a deciding leg after being 3-1 down.
However, Munyua and Wachiuri recovered in the final leg to claim their first win. A similar scenario played in their third contest, a 4-3 victory over Wales.
Munyua and Wachiuri played catch-up throughout their second contest, a duel against Scotland. The Scottish pair took a 2-0 lead before Munyua and Wachiuri reduced the deficit to 2-1.
The Scots won the fourth leg before Munyua and Wachiuri it 3-2 in the fifth leg. Campbell and McEwan dominated the sixth leg to quash hopes of a Kenyan comeback. Munyua’s and Wachiuri’s final two contests – 4-2 losses against Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland – were worryingly similar.

Finishing in the bottom three positions in Group ‘A’ will see them added to Group ‘C’ who play their contests on Friday. Like in Group ‘B’, Group ‘C’ teams will play each other twice. The top two teams in Group ‘C’ will feature in the final.
They were eliminated in the group stages winning only one out of eight contests. South Africans Carl Gabriel and Devon Petersen featured at Modus International Pairs 2 in August 2025.
