What you need to know:

  • KRU received sponsorship of Sh14 million from Kenya Breweries Limited for this year’s Safari Sevens.
  • A successful Safari Sevens tournament will strengthen Kenya’s bid to host another a leg of the World Rugby Sevens Division II next year.

A successful Safari Sevens tournament on October 9 and 10 at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi will go a long way in strengthening Kenya’s bid to host another a leg of the World Rugby Sevens Division II next year.

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) chairperson Harriet Okach said her team is focused on ensuring everything is in place to showcase the country’s abilities during the tournament. Kenya hosted the first leg of the three-series World Rugby Sevens Division II in February at the Nyayo National Stadium. The other legs were held in Montevideo in Uruguay, and in São Paulo, Brazil, in that order.
