It’s time to roll up our sleeves and serve sportspeople
National Olympic Committee of Kenya president-elect Shadrack Maluki (second left) leads his team in celebrations after NOCK elections on July 21, 2025 in Nairobi
I congratulate the new team of officials who were elected on July 21 in Nairobi to lead the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) for the next four years.
After a protracted period of campaigns marked by the postponement of elections twice, a new team led by Shadrack Maluki was elected to guide NOC-K to a new phase of transformation.
Maluki was elected NOC-K president, and I was elected first vice-chairman.
The other elected officials are Nahashon Randiek (second deputy president), John Ogola (secretary general), Fred Chege (treasurer), Charles Mose (deputy treasurer), Doreen Okiri (woman representative), Grace Okulu (female athlete representative), Eliud Kipchoge (male athlete representative), and committee members Jocyline Nyambura, Sasha Mutai, and Suleiman Sumba.

These are the men and women who will be in charge of NOC-K’s affairs for the next four years. I remind each of us that we have been elected to serve with humility. I am grateful to all who believed in me and entrusted me with the position of first vice chairman. It is a call to work closely with NOC-K’s president Mr Maluki in taking the organization to the next level of success, building on the good work NOC-K’s outgoing president Paul Tergat has done over the years.
It is time for us to build on our mandate as Team New Dawn. In my case, I will draw from my experience at Athletics Kenya, where we established structured programmes of talent development, with camps at the grassroots, to ensure a steady supply of fresh talent every season. That has helped Kenya stay on top of the world in athletics, even in the face of key challenges.
Kenya’s success at the 2025 Africa Under-18 and Under-20 Athletics Championships in Abeokuta, Nigeria, is a testament to the hard work that we have put on the ground that continues to churn out fresh talent. In Abeokuta, the young and talented athletes we have been nurturing in athletics camps at the grassroots were unearthed, and they conquered Africa in their first outing. This is something we can replicate at NOC-K.
We hope to walk the journey of nurturing talent with all the affiliate federations at NOC-K to ensure we have a pool of young talent for the benefit of local teams, leagues and federations. We must walk the journey with all federations – big and small, and we shall work with everybody to make NOC-K even greater.
In the next few days, we shall roll out a plan to make this a reality. I urge all elected leaders to go out there and give our best to our athletes by delivering on our mandate.
