SRC move right • The parliamentary committee’s rejection of a proposal to have the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) members hired on a part-time basis is spot on, says Fadhili Wafula. “The SRC should work full-time to ensure apt management of the public sector. To ensure accountability, the SRC must work for the people’s benefit.” His contact is [email protected].

Cheating • Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, who claims there has not been any cheating in this year’s national examinations, is living in denial, says Lincoln E. Oyigo. “Are you really serious, Dr Kipsang? I feel the KCSE exam should be cancelled and redone. What we’re hearing is a big shame. The Education leadership has failed and should just quit.” His contact is [email protected].

University rot • Sending the parliamentary Education Committee to investigate the looming death of Moi University is a waste of resources, says Dr Odidi Owiti, writing from the scenic Mageta Island in Lake Victoria. He poses: “Who doesn’t know the cause of the rot? Just invite local MP Oscar Sudi. This is poetic justice. As Moi University goes to the dogs, Daystar rises.” His contact is [email protected].

CBD chaos • Nairobi’s central business district has “become a chaotic market overrun by hawkers, boda boda and matatus”, says Thomas Yebei. “Walking along the sidewalks of the city of five million residents is now a really dangerous and daunting task. Why have the city authorities allowed some 5,000 hawkers to block other people from safely moving around their city?” His contact is [email protected].

Stinky river • The pollution of Kirichwa Kubwa river in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa neighbourhood is the source of “an extremely foul stench” residents have to endure, says Nicky Nzioki, seeking the city authorities’ intervention. He has photos and video clips and wants to know what Nema Director-General Mamo Boru Mamo is doing about it. Says he: “It’s unbearable!” His contact is [email protected].

Have a decisive day, won’t you!
