A murder suspect who went on the run after allegedly killing a Form Four student in Moto village in Molo, Nakuru County, has been arrested.

Molo Sub-County Police Commander Justus Katana confirmed that Walter Kipkoech, 23, was arrested on Monday following a manhunt over Joy Wangui’s murder.

Mr Katana said police and investigators were gathering crucial information before arraigning the suspect in court to seek more time to complete their investigations.

According to a DCI report seen by the Daily Nation, Kipkoech was traced to his hideout in Langwenda village, Kuresoi North, where detectives from Molo alongside officers from the Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) arrested him.

Kipkoech fled immediately after the incident that left Wangui, 18, dead. Ms Wangui was a Form Four candidate at Molo Senior School.

Her lifeless body was discovered inside the kitchen at her parents' residence. Her brother, who had left for a family shop, returned to a horrifying scene and found his sister lying in a pool of blood, with her head severed.

An axe, panga and two bloodstained knives were recovered at the scene and treated as possible weapons used in the killing.

Preliminary investigations established that the suspect was the deceased's boyfriend, with detectives pursuing a possible relationship dispute as a motive for the killing.

The suspect was arrested wearing a bloodstained boxer, a white T-shirt bearing the deceased's name at the bottom and black jeans with visible dry bloodstains.

The incident shocked residents, with members of the community calling for swift action against the suspect.
