Six people have died following a road accident in Kamara in Mau Summit on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway after the matatu they were travelling in collided with a truck.

According to Kuresoi North Sub-County Police Commander John Kimutai, the 8:30pm crash involved a lorry and a 14-seater matatu. The truck, which was heading towards Nakuru, swerved before colliding with the matatu, which was ferrying passengers from Nakuru towards Eldoret. The matatu had 11 passengers on board.

Five people, including the matatu driver, died on the spot, while one succumbed while receiving treatment at Londiani Sub-County Hospital.

"The accident involved a Toyota Hiace belonging to Eldoret Crossroads. It had 11 passengers on board. The fatalities are all male adults. Three people suffered serious injuries and were rushed to Londiani Sub-County Hospital. The truck driver sustained minor injuries," he said.
