Popular gospel musician Daddy Owen has confirmed he will get married this year. He told Showbuzz that he was doing the final preparations and would announce the date as soon as possible.
“Yes, I’m hoping that all goes well and soon I will announce the wedding date,” he said.
His brother, veteran musician Rufftone, tied the knot early last year. Owen comes from a musical family where his other brothers, Rufftone, Fidel and Sledge, are all gospel musicians.

Coke Studio back with a new twist
The third season of African music show Coke Studio is back, with an interesting line-up of celebrated musicians and artistes from Africa. The show, which has already had two previous successful seasons, has featured some renowned artistes from Africa like Diamond, Chidinma, Burna Boy, Navio, Rabbit and Lilian Mbabazi.
The show will feature artistes from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique and Nigeria. This season’s line-up, however, conspicuously features a longer line of Nigerian artistes compared with artistes from other countries.
Artistes from Nigeria include 2 Face Idibia, M.I, Chidinma, Yemi Alade, Eva, Seyi Shay, Ice Prince, Afro Dija, Olamide and Flavour.
Representing Kenya will be the high-flying band Elani, pioneer Genge artiste Juacali, rapper Wangechi and singer Avril. Artistes like Vanessa Mdee from Tanzania will be returning for this season. Also joining her from Tanzania will be Ali Kiba, Ben Pol and Fid Q. Tubonge hit maker Jose Chameleone will also be part of the line-up from Uganda. Grammy Award winning musician and producer Zwai Bala, of ground-breaking South African Kwaito group TKZee, will be the show’s music director.
Tracks for the show will be produced by local and international producers, among them our own Kevin Provoke, Jazz Odongo and Eric Musyoka.

MCSK Nairobi region directors in court over the election results
On April 21, musicians across the country went to the ballot to elect new regional directors of Music Copyright Society of Kenya. But to date, the two winners of the Nairobi region, Albert Gacheru and Henry Njenga, are yet to be listed as directors on MCSK’s official website.
However, the rest of the directors have been listed. They include Simon Kariuki, Central; Tom K’Odiyo, Nyanza; Lazarus Muli, Eastern; Pamela Mayeku, Western; Ben Mukaisi, Rift Valley; and Sango Aidan, Coast.
Showbuzz has learnt that two members of MCSK moved to court to block the election results of Nairobi region, claiming that one director, Mr Njenga, was not lawfully nominated to vie.
On Friday, Mr Gacheru confirmed the reports, saying they are waiting for the court to make a decision.
“Yes, we were not confirmed as directors since some members went to court over the matter” said Mr Gacheru.
“However, since there is no one complaining about me, I have asked the court to exclude me from this matter. The court will make a ruling this Tuesday.”

Kenyans to stage musicalto honour Obama’s visit
After staging an original rendition of Maya Angelou’s poetry in the musical, The Caged Bird Sings, Tone Theatre Productions is staging a new musical Obama: Dreams From My Father. The musical will be staged in July at the Kenya National Theatre, Nairobi.
The musical, written and directed by award-winning journalist George Orido, will be staged in Nairobi as part of activities to welcome US President Barack Obama during his first visit of Kenya as Head of state.
According to Mr Orido, the production will be celebrating diversity and inclusivity in public affairs management.
“Since we all know Obama was elected President in a country where blacks are a minority, the message is crucial to Kenyans who have used ‘Tyranny of Numbers’ politics to discriminate a great section of society,” he explains.
Some of the pieces in the musical are original compositions by Ohanglaman Makadem, Evans Mbinji, maestro Nicholas Moipei and diva Suzanna Owiyo. The cast is a mix of young and seasoned actors, including Claire Etaba and Makadem.
