I am not good at keeping friends because cliques aren’t my thing. I make decisions on the go and always have my own back. When I decided to quit my radio job, most people thought I had a plan.
Truth is, I didn’t have a plan. I was tired of the radio and didn’t want to do it anymore. It was a bold move, but hey, I don’t have kids, and some freedom comes with that.
Another reason I left radio is that they got me a co-host and we were just not getting along. I wasn’t involved in the decision of getting the co-host. The relationship was so terrible, I even started smoking just to get through my work day.
I can’t say the radio station was bad; I just think I wasn’t a good fit, and I wish I knew that before I started working there.
However, I miss the radio sometimes; it’s a powerful tool in disseminating information. But it quite structured, and I am not good with that. I thrive in unstructured spaces, creatively speaking.
On radio, I was making good money, right now I am not earning as much and many people ask me why I would walk away from such a bag (salary). But if you check my history, I always trust my gut and leave when it is time. I hated going to work. I added weight, and that was the first signal that something was not right. I actually quit twice.
I feel like right now, the fabric that used to hold society together is no longer there. As a society, we are in that confusion, trying to figure out what’s next.
‘Men should be providers…’ I hate that statement. Do you know why? Because it is often used against someone, sometimes it’s vindictive.
‘Real men' is another common phrase that I don’t like to hear women use. Real men must…, real men this… Ladies, to tell a man that a real man should…Is it from your personal experience? Have you been a man once upon a time? I say this because women who use these phrases talk about things they have heard or seen somewhere else.
Part of the reason why I don't have children is that I don't think I am prepared to do the work of raising a child.
