Minister kicked out of palatial home
A Cabinet Secretary has been locked out of a lavish Nairobi home he allegedly purchased for a woman he hoped would become his second wife. The home, in one of the city’s leafy suburbs, is said to have cost the minister over Sh60 million. According to our little bird, the romance has since hit the rocks, and the woman is now said to be living in the property with the father of her child. The woman reportedly enjoys connections in influential circles and has even threatened to reveal embarrassing details about the affair should the politician attempt to challenge the arrangement.
MCA’s huge deposits raise eyebrows
Just where is a Member of County Assembly getting loads of cash that he normally deposits every Friday at one of the banks? Well, one of the bank staff whispered to Talk of Town that the MCA deposits at least Sh200, 000 every Friday. Curiously, the mheshimiwa uses one particular counter for all his deposits, which he normally carries in a brown envelope. Some of his friends said the MCA must be reaping big from one of his friends in the government. The bank is thinking of having a conversation with the MCA over the source of the money before they get in trouble with the regulator.
PS shocks staff at ministry
Staff at a ministry are quietly wondering how a Principal Secretary has suddenly become active during the budget making process in Parliament. The PS has attended almost all invites from MPs and has been very active in all forums advocating for more resources to the ministry. The staff are wondering about the sudden change of attitude towards work when all along he has never supported the CS to an extent of even refusing to accompany the CS in some parliamentary sessions. They are hoping the same vigour the PS has exhibited in demanding more resources for the ministry will be replicated during the accountability period.
Leader escapes ‘beatings’ trap in funeral
A senior State Officer skipped the burial of a prominent elder in his region after learning that there was a plan, not only to heckle him, but also to attack him. The plan, our little bird said, was hatched by a political faction which has accused the leader of doing little to improve the fortunes of the region. Youths were strategically placed and had already been paid to teach the man a lesson and show him that he no longer has political ground in the region. The leader was however, informed of the plan by one of his confidants and decided to keep off. He has, however, vowed to use his position and proximity to power to teach some of the leaders a lesson.
‘Big boys’ rush to hide the loot
Still in the corridors of City Hall, a number of senior directors are reported not to have reported to work on Friday as they were busy hiding their loot acquired in unexplained ways. The few that reported are said to have rushed home with boda boda after the breaking news of the arrest of the city planning boss. Our birds heard one of them telling his colleagues of the urgency with which he wants to transfer ownership of properties he had registered in relatives’ names to companies and those not related to him. Some of them are, however, stranded with loads of cash they have in their houses, as no one now wants to associate with them anymore, lest they be on the radar of anti-graft investigators.
Workers shocked over stingy millionaire
Still at City Hall, colleagues of a top official who found himself on the spot are reportedly struggling to hide their amusement. The chatter in the corridors is not so much about the troubles with the law, but the apparent discovery that the man many knew as “Mr I-Have-Nothing” may have been sitting on a small fortune all along. For years, the official allegedly perfected the art of appearing perpetually broke. Staff seeking assistance, colleagues requesting a contribution and even friends looking for a favour were often treated to lengthy sermons about tough economic times and empty pockets. The revelation has sparked endless gossip within corridors, with some wondering whether the official’s legendary stinginess was actually a survival strategy.
