Police are investigating the circumstances under which Hashim Dagane Muhumed, a suspect in the murder of three females abducted in Eastleigh estate, Nairobi, acquired Kenyan identity documents.

Appearing before a parliamentary team, Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja said Mr Muhumed arrived in the country from Somalia not long ago and acquired the documents.

What drew suspicion is the fact that, despite claiming to be a Kenyan, Muhumed cannot speak Kiswahili, English or any local dialect.

“We had to get an interpreter when interrogating him,” Mr Kanja told the National Assembly Administration and Internal Affairs Committee.

“We want to know how the man acquired the Kenyan identity card.”  The man, investigations show, had four wives and killed one.”

Second suspect

The suspected killer was arraigned for murder on November 4. The Makadara Chief Magistrate’s Court granted police 21 days to hold him as investigations into the killings continue. Mr Muhumed is being held at Ruaraka police station.

He was arrested on November 3, 2024 after a tip-off from the public and detained at Kamkunji police station.

Muhumed has been linked to the murders of Dahabo Daud Said, her 12-year-old daughter Museiba Abdi Mohamed and niece Amina Abdirashid Dahir.

The police boss said the three were reported missing on October 21, and their bodies found several hours later.
Mr Kanja said another suspect in the killings is assisting police with investigations.
